If there was ever any question as to who the ultimate Hollywood power couple was, it was answered at the 2014 BAFTA's last night. Brangelina showed the world who's boss when they walked the red carpet in matching tuxedo's, whilst Ange proved that whatever you can do, she can do better and in heels. It was a brilliant night for winners such as Jennifer Lawrence, Cate Blanchett and Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron but also a beautiful night for fashion; here are my five favourites from the red carpet!
Cate Blanchett in Alexander McQueen
It was a night to remember for Cate as she won Best Actress for her role in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine, much deserved I might add. Her performance, like the movie, was outstanding. Luckily her dress was too! This Alexander McQueen gown is pretty simple but the gold embellished flowers add a little extra glitz. Simple but beautiful.
Laura Carmichael in Erdem
Ah, American's Vogue's February It Girl! Downton Abbey's Laura Carmichael looks demure and quintessentially British in this pretty Erdem gown. I love to see something a little shorter on red carpets and the length is perfect. The colour works perfectly against her English Rose complexion and on a beauty note I adore her hair in this, colour and style. Its nice to see a classic look on a young starlet that doesn't come across as dowdy (ehem, Lorde).
Fearne Cotton in Scaasi
Even though this is ever so slightly tacky, I really like it. The Gwen Stefani hair and bronze sparkly eye work really well but the DRESS. I've seen that she's appeared on a couple of worst-dressed lists but really? It just works somehow, the embellishment looks detailed and expensive and its that good mid-point between bronze and gold that doesn't look cheap. Fearne, you did good.
Lupita Nyong'o in Christian Dior Couture
Oh, Lupita. This girl of the moment never gets it wrong. Taking aside the fact that she is completely genetically blessed, Lupita has a brilliant personal style - its always so clean and sophisticated, recalling an element of old-Hollywood glamour but never looking stale or last-year. This Christian Dior Couture gown sets off her skin tone beautifully and I love the flared skirt shape. The belt combined with the wrist cuffs could look matchy matchy but the contrasting metallic tones offset this to appear elegant. Translation: I LOVE.
Angelina Jolie in Saint Laurent
I saved the best till last. I've been a massive Angelina Jolie fan for years ever since a pre-teen obsession with Lara Croft (yes, really) and its been kinda disappointing that she's dropped out of the spotlight a bit. In my opinion, this makes up for it! ONLY Angelina could rock up to the red carpet in a tux and not look ironic. Personally, I think she is the number one best dressed of the night. Sharp tailoring is a personal love of mine and this sartorial look is perfect against her ultra-feminine hair and makeup. My favourite!
